Giant Mural Project at Greenbelt

The project started with a line inserted in a conversation with the Greenbelt team. “We will have some blank walls next year. I don’t know if you’re interested, but we want to turn it into a mural.” We were meeting for a totally different project.
It’s huge, it’s a daunting task. Our first ever mural as a team was the 9-feet tall heart that we did for Christmas. We finished it back to back in 1 day.

Now, our next task was a 70-m long wall, about 3.5 meters high. That’s a lot of surface. We’re used to paint on small 6×8″ papers for our invitation projects. I don’t know if this is doable for us. Think about how much time we have to spend out of the office for this to paint the wall. Time is our most precious commodity as artists, and we can’t give our time just to anything. But after a bit of thought, my innards really can’t let this opportunity pass. To have a huge canvas with a lot of visibility.. that’s the dream!
This is how it started. A canvas so overwhelming, we had to break it down into something manageable. I don’t want to paint the wall just for the sake of it. It’s been in our plans to have a “Scribble Club”, and this seems to be the perfect opportunity to launch this. Why not dream big, and turn this mural into an event?

We still want to finish it the soonest possible time. So we had a call for volunteers for the mural! Almost 200 people responded, yahoo!

Planning was hard. In fact, when we were on site 2 days before the actual painting day, we realised we lacked about 20 meters of designs! Patty made a bit more in time for the Saturday event. The rest, we just had to freehand and duplicate from existing elements.

The designs we had to copy. We also had projectors on site.

By lunch time, we had passersby painting with us too! We needed all the help we could get!

Of course, we had to document all our efforts!

That’s me!

The experience was nothing short of exhilirating. To me, it was an impossible task made reality by the community. From the countless back and forth coordination for the design, schedule, supplies and volunteers, to suddenly finishing this mural in ONE DAY. It’s a miracle!!!
The best part for me was meeting new people. The different young artists are so happy and energetic and just full of life. Kakatuwa talaga! I’m so very proud of what we accomplished! We hit many birds in 1 stone!

  1. Paint the 70m white walls
  2. Finish it in 1 day
  3. Launch The Scribble Club
  4. Visibility for the Ink Scribbler brand

So hello, The Scribble Club! We hope to have many many more events!

Thank you Wendy’s for breakfast, John and Yoko for lunch, and Chili’s for merienda! Thank you Boysen for sponsoring the paints! They got the Pantones we needed and we didn’t have to mix to get the right shades!

Thank you to the team for an excellent job! To the Greenbelt team, thank you for always involving us in your projects. To the volunteers, we literally couldn’t have done this without you!
